I belong to the “Trophy Generation” of millennials. Uh-oh, the generation that just entered the workforce with a sense of unjustified entitlement, you say? Well, I would like to use other letter e words to describe myself and my peers, such as “enthusiastic”, “energetic” and “excellent”, but now that you’ve mentioned entitlement, I can’t really argue against that at this point of time. But know that we’re trying. Every generation came with their own set of challenges and I’m not sure how one fix “entitlement” except with some sort of setback - which we just did - with the recent economic down turn. We’re humbled now.
I was born and raised in Singapore, spent 5 crazy years in Texas for college and work, and is back in Asia, currently eating and slaving it out with OpenRice.com. I’m passionate about what I do, and lovingly gets involve with every aspect of OpenRice Singapore from the business side, which includes operations, user interface, business development, marketing & sales and also the-less-business side, which includes food, foodies, writing and editorial, interviewing charming restaurant owners and cute celebrity chefs.
Update: I’ve moved over to CozyCot.com, a sister company of OpenRice.com, all housed under JDB Holdings. JDB Holdings is Asia’s fastest growing online media networks covering 9 countries with over 28 million monthly unique visitors.
I want to join in the rat race in New York City (despite all the horror stories everyone else tells me about it), fall in love over and over again in Paris and/or Italy, admire the architectural masterpieces in Greece and Venice and basically explore any parts of the universe I’ve yet to place my mark on. Including the moon.
Ah, sounds naively optimistic and idealistic doesn’t it? Unfortunately, very much so (blame it on the gen-y disease if you really must) and much to the detriment of my computer-chair critics (who pride themselves on being painful realists as they stay firmly sitted behind their computer screens), and quite a dreamer, except I make my dreams more than just dreams by working towards them step by step and eventually turning them into reality. Think we can help each other get there faster? Then let’s talk.
